454 CLUB

The 454 Club is a group of people committed to helping young people find brighter futures through their association with the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley.

It just costs, on average, $454 each year for one youth to participate fully in the programs and activities at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley. Yet, 8 out of every 10 youth served at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley actually live below the poverty level for a family of four ($22,050) and more than half (58%) come from single parent families. They are frequently unable to afford the full cost of these programs.

For just $454 per year, YOU can provide these life-changing programs for one child or teen. In contrast it takes $82,402 per year for one youth to be admitted to a full-time juvenile detention facility...which would you rather pay for??

The 454 Club is your opportunity to become a "member" of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley through an annual contribution to the programs that positively affect over 49,000 youth in our community.

Your annual $454 Club donation can even be broken down to a monthly donation of $37.84.

How the 454 Club began…

Art Pasker, President of PGA&W Architects in Murray, is an avid supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Valley. He knows firsthand what it’s like to grow up in a single parent family. Art’s mother had to raise him and his younger sister alone after Art’s father left home when he was only three years old. When they moved to the city, there was fortunately a Boys Club located between his home and school.

So instead of running around with the “west side” kids (as he called them), he would stop by the Club after school and stay until dinner time. While at the Club, Art was able to help other children tool leather and make billfolds in addition to playing pool and basketball. He didn’t realize it at the time, but the Club kept him busy and out of trouble.

Art left home when he was 18 years old and worked his way through college. Since then, his architectural firm has had the opportunity to design and build the Boys & Girls Clubs in both Murray and Midvale. His boys attended the Murray Club as youth, so Art recognize what an invaluable service the Club currently provides the community. He knows that his contributions make it possible for the Club youth to grow into responsible adults with the help and guidance of the dedicated Club staff.

In an effort to further support the Club and make it possible for others to give back, a few years ago Art came up with the idea of starting an “adult” Boys & Girls Club membership known as “the 454 Club.” Since it costs the Club $454 annually to provide life-altering programs to one child, Art thought that this could be a way for somebody to help at least one child each year, or more if they choose. Members of the 454 Club, in essence, sponsor a child each year and help provide them with services and opportunities that would otherwise be limited by economic or other types of obstacles. Art believes that with enough members contributing the annual “dues” of $454, they can undoubtedly help the Club and truly make a difference in the lives of our youth.

Thanks to Art for his leadership and creating the 454 Club.
